Christian Christensen, Professor of Media & Communication Studies

Uppsala University

Christian obtained his Ph.D. in 2001 from the Department of Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin. Christian’s primary area of research is in the use of social media during times of war and conflict, but he has also published on the representation of Islam, post 9/11 documentary film and international journalism. Christensen is the editor or co-editor of a number of forthcoming books, including “Twitter Revolutions: Political Activism and Dissent in an Age of Social Media” (2012; New York: Peter Lang), “Online Territories: Mediated Practice and Social Space” (2011; New York: Peter Lang) and “Understanding Media and Culture in Turkey: Structures, Spaces, Voices” (2011; New York: Routledge). He is the guest editor of aspecial issue (2011) of the journal The Communication Review entitled, “Twitter Revolutions? Addressing Social Media and Dissent” and is working on an edited book on WikiLeaks to come out at the end of 2012 or start of 2013.
