DNS Meetup

News from the world of DNS. Lately resilience has come under the scrutiny of regulators. We will take a look at how resilient the DNS really is, and what operators of this essentials service can do to improve it.

We will dive into different DNS based questions around security and operations. Some familiarity with DNS will be needed, but you do not need to be a DNS wizard. Latest research around email security and resolver security will be presented as well as some more operational information. And we try to take a short glimpse at the future of name resolution.

    A professional software developer working in a variety of industries for longer than he cares to remember, Jim fell out of air traffic control and into the DNS world nearly 5 years ago. Part of DNS consultancy Sinodun, his primary focuses are on DNS privacy and resource efficient capture and analysis of DNS traffic.
  • Maciej Korczynski

    Associate professor, Grenoble Alps University
    Maciej Korczynski is an associate professor at Grenoble Alps University in France. His main research interests include Internet-wide passive and active security measurements, incident data analysis, vulnerability notifications, the economics of cybersecurity, and security of Internet protocols, in particular DNS.

  • John Todd

    Executive Director, Quad9
    John Todd is the Executive Director of Quad9. Prior to Quad9, he has held positions at Packet Clearing House (PCH) which is one of the world’s largest authoritative anycast arrays, as well as at more than a dozen commercial startups focused on IP network communications. Across 30 years of involvement with the Internet, the consistent utility of and work with the DNS led him to assist in the creation and ongoing operation of Quad9’s non-profit mission of privacy and security.
  • Willem Toorop

    Researcher at NLnet Labs
    Willem Toorop is a developer/researcher at NLnet Labs, where he works on Open Standards and Open Source Software for core internet protocols. He is especially interested in delivering first class security and privacy (with DNSSEC and DNS-over-TLS) to end-users at the edges of the internet. He is passionate about his work and cannot help himself talking, explaining and presenting about it.
  • Duane Wessels

    Verisign
    Duane Wessels is a Distinguished Engineer at Verisign, with a focus on DNSSEC projects and root zone operations. He often analyzes large amounts of data relating to Verisign’s DNS services and develops tools used both within the company and by the broader community.
  • Wes Hardaker

    Senior Computer Scientist
    At USC/ISI, Wes Hardaker is a Senior Computer Scientist responsible for overseeing teams to develop and execute research projects. He is principally responsible for the operation and management of the Internet’s b.root-servers.net DNS critical infrastructure, which handles 1/13th of all the world’s top level DNS requests. Mr. Hardaker is developing research programs to enhance the DNS and other Internet protocols.
