Liz Elliot Business Development Director, University of Edinburgh

Liz Elliot is the Business Development Director for the Usher Institute of Population Health Sciences and Informatics based within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. Prior to this Liz was Director of Professional Services for the School of Informatics at University of Edinburgh. During her 4-year tenure, working with Professor Dave Robertson, the School doubled its research portfolio and rose from 30 to 12 in the world QS rankings for computing science departments.

Liz joined the University of Edinburgh in 2007 and before joining, worked in the commercial biotechnology sector. She holds a PhD in molecular genetics and specialised in the heterologous production of pharmaceutically-important proteins; rising to a leading research for a US biotechnology company. Liz holds a number of relevant patents.

Leveraging her commercial background, Liz has a track record of managing innovation. This has been through winning external funding for investment in novel business models to leading the operational management of complex inter-Institutional programmes. Currently, Liz holds funding from the Medical Research Council to develop new models of industry engagement relating to medical informatics and data science. To this end, she is a member of the Farr Institute.
